Achieving a Safety Milestone

The Axial Business Unit has successfully reached its ambitious “Road to 3,000” initiative for FY25. This strategic effort works to emphasize the importance of identifying and addressing potential hazards in order to prevent incidents. This remarkable achievement underscores the commitment to maintaining a safe and secure working environment for all team members.

“The Axial Leadership, along with our proactive Safety Team and Safety Subject Matter Experts, is dedicated to an incredible goal: identifying and fixing 3,000 potential hazards in one year, ensuring a safer environment for everyone,” said Ron Borchardt, plant manager, WI.

Supporting the effort in this success has been Greenheck Group’s use of Intelex, our comprehensive environmental, health, and safety (EHS) management software. Intelex plays a crucial role in tracking and managing hazards, ensuring that each issue is documented, assigned, and resolved efficiently. Intelex’s robust platform allowed the Axial BU to keep meticulous records of all identified hazards. The system’s features enabled the team to:

  • Log Hazards: Each potential hazard is recorded with detailed information, including the location, action required, date created, person responsible, target date, status, and completion date.
  • Assign Responsibilities: Hazards are assigned to specific individuals, ensuring accountability and timely resolution.
  • Track Progress: The status of each hazard is monitored in real-time, allowing for quick updates and follow-ups.
  • By maintaining a comprehensive database of safety data sheets (SDS) and other critical documents, Intelex helps ensure compliance with safety regulations.

This milestone is another significant step toward our ongoing goal to create a safer workplace. Congratulations to the entire team for their hard work and commitment to safety!

Here are a few examples of the potential hazards identified and managed using Intelex:

  • Trash Containers in Weld Bays: The current trash containers were not adequate to prevent potential fires from sparks and slag. The solution was to replace them with metal containers with hinged lids to ensure safety.
  • Chemical Storage: Several chemicals, such as Hydrochloric Acid and Sodium Hydroxide, were not listed in the SDS database. These were promptly added to ensure proper handling and compliance.
  • Floor Tape for Safety Zones: In Facility 2, floor tape and paint were put down to designate clear areas in front of panels, preventing obstructions and ensuring safe access. Walking and working surfaces are being marked to facilitate safe travels throughout the shop. This has also been a great enhancement to keep shop tours on a specific route.
